All About Bhilwara

Bhilwara, the textile city of Rajasthan also known as Manchester of Rajasthan, is a district of Rajasthan. It is a city Mewar region of Rajasthan, India & also 7th biggest city of Rajasthan, India. It falls between the districts of Ajmer (in the north) and Chittorgarh and Udaipur(in the south).It is 252.5 km away from its state capital which is known as Jaipur.It is away from Delhi(India’s capital) around 523 km. Bhilwara has no natural lake in the district but there is a number of ponds and dams so the district is the most irrigated in the state of Rajasthan. This city has a lot of tourist places & temples so we can call it a great tourist place of Rajasthan(tourist hub of India). Historical records show that a town named Mandal close to Bhilwara served as the military base for the Mughals when they had attacked Chittaurgarh.

Etymology:- Local tradition reveals that it came to be known as Bhilwara because it was mostly inhabited by BHIL tribes in old days. The present Bhilwara, there are only a few people left belonging to Bhil Tribe as most of them were driven away by the peasants to remote areas.The town is more than 900 years old and is one of the oldest cities in Rajasthan. There is another version of the story that suggests that the name Bhilwara has derived from the term“Bhilwadi” that referred to the coins that were minted in this place in ancient times. There used to be a mint in the place where we have Bhilwara in present India, and it was a significant source for minting coins.

Transportation:- Nowadays every city has a good transport so Bhilwara also has a good transport via road. It has a good connectivity system via road & trains but not for air to other cities of India & Rajasthan also.

1. Via Road:- Bhilwara has very well connected roads which connect major cities like Indore, Mumbai, Udaipur, Jaipur etc. NH-79, NH-76 & NH-758 are the national highways that pass through Bhilwara.NH-79 connects Bhilwara to Indore & also Ajmer and another NH-76 connects Bhilwara to Udaipur & Chhattisgarh. The total length is 120 km.NH-758 passes through the district. The length of this highway is 146 km.The total road length in the district was 3,883 km(approx).With a government bus depot in the heart of the city, Bhilwara is connected to all the important cities of Rajasthan and other states.Bhilwara is well connected by road to capital city Jaipur and distance is 253 kilometre.

2.Railway Transport:-

Bhilwara has a better railway connectivity with different places.A broad gauge railway line connecting Ajmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Kota, Indore Junction, Ujjain, Delhi, Bharatpur, Agra, Gwalior, Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Patna, Kolkata, Chittorgarh, Udaipur City, Mavli Jn., Ratlam, Vadodara, Surat,
Mumbai and Hyderabad pass through the district. Kota (160 km) is the convenient railway station to provide connectivity to the southern states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

3.Air Transportation:- The nearest airport is at Udaipur (165 km) — approximately 2.5 hours, by road. The other nearest airport is at Jaipur (251 km) which takes about 4 hours by road. The nearest international airports are in Jaipur, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad.

Famous Tourist Places to visit in bhilwara:-

1.Badnore Fort is 70 km from Bhilwara on the Bhilwara Asind road. Pur Udan Chatri is about 10 km from Bhilwara city. It is famous for Udan Chatri, Adhar Sheela Mahadev where a huge rock is resting on a small one.

2.Kyara ke Balaji has a natural image of Lord Hanuman. It is said that the image spontaneously appeared on the rock.

Patola Mahadev Temple, Ghata Rani Temple, Beeda ke Mataji Temple and Neelkanth Mahadev Temple are nearby attractions situated on the beautiful hills of the Aravali mountain range.The Bhilwara Municipal corporation is developing a tourist place at Gata Rani Mandir.

3.The Madhav Gou Vigyan Anusandhan Kendra (Madhav Cow Science Research Centre), Village Gaadarmala(Pur) is a very popular Gousala. Mandal is around 16 km from Bhilwara city; it has the Battis Khambon ki Chhatri. As the name implies, this is a handsome chhatri made of sandstone with 32 pillars.

Some of them have beautiful carving at the base and the upper portion. Within this chatri a huge Shivling is situated.

4.Harni Mahadev: Founded by the ancestors of the Darak family, a Shivling lies under the mountain, built into a Shiva temple is 8 km from the city.
It got the name Harni on the name of a village near it, a nice place for people from the city for outing as it has hills around. On the occasion of Shiv Ratri, a three-day fair is held here. Near this Chamunda Mata Mandir is a hill from where one can have a view of the whole city. Dadi dham temple is also there on the way.
